How much do Lifties make Vail?
Lifties are provided by many resorts for their off days. As you dust off the chair for the people who don’t know how to use it, you will also deal with frustration. If you are a liftie, you will be required to pay for your own lift ticket. If you do not have one, the resort will give you one for free.
The lifties will not be able to take advantage of this, however, and will have to buy their own tickets. This can be a hassle, especially if you have a lot of people in the lift, but it is the only way to get to the top of the mountain. There is also the possibility of being charged a fee for the privilege of using the lifts, so be sure to check with your resort before you go.
Is being a lift operator fun?
It’s fun. It’s a great experience being here, lots of great people to work with, everyone has a smile on their face, and always ready to serve. My favorite thing about coaching is the camaraderie that we have with our players.
We have a group of guys that I’ve coached for a long time and we’ve had a lot of success together. I think that’s one of my proudest moments is when we won the Stanley Cup. That was a special moment for me and my family and I’m very proud to have been able to do that.
What is it like being a Lifty?
Being a “lifty” makes it easier to collect trash. They wake up at the crack of dawn to shovel a lot of snow. They help a lot of people navigate a huge amount of traffic in the winter. They keep the snow off of their cars.
But they don’t do it for the money. In fact, most of the time, they’re just doing it because it’s the right thing to do. It’s what they’ve always done. And that’s why we love them.
