The mountain is very steep. That\’s what it\’s known for. I grew to know the runs of my local resorts when I traveled along the East Coast. I knew the best routes to get to the pow stashes. But I didn’t know what to do when I got to Taos.
It wasn’t just the steepness of the trail, it was the fact that I had no idea where I was supposed to go. There was no map, no compass, and no way to find my way back to my car. The only way I could find out was to hike.
