Can I drink water before an MRI?
You should not eat or drink for 4 hours prior to the exam. If you need to take your medication with a sip of water, you may do so. The day before your exam drink plenty of water so you are not dehydrated. Your exam will be held in the same room as the rest of your class.
If you do not have an exam room, you will need to bring your own exam table and chairs. We will provide you with all of the materials you need for the exam, but we will not be responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen exam materials that you may bring with you. Can you eat and drink before an MRI?
On the day of your MRI scan, you should be able to eat, drink and take any medication as usual, unless you’re advised otherwise. In some cases, you may be asked not to eat or drink for up to 4 hours before the scans, and sometimes you will be asked to drink a large amount of water before the scans. If you have any concerns about your health, talk to your doctor.
Why do you have to drink water before an MRI?
You will be asked to drink 3 bottles of a liquid called Volumen before the exam. This will help distend the bowel so it can be better visualized during the MRI. During the exam, you will be given an injection of contrast fluid.
You will also be instructed to lie on your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. The exam will last approximately 30 minutes. MRI will take approximately 45 minutes to complete.
Why do I feel drained after an MRI?
In a new study published in Current Biology online on Sept. 22, a team led by Johns Hopkins scientists suggests that MRI’s strong magnet pushes on fluid that circulates in the inner ear’s balance center, leading to an imbalance that can lead to hearing loss.

Can I drink coffee before an MRI?
Do not eat anything four hours before the exam. You may have clear liquids only (jello, tea, fruit drinks without pulp, black coffee, water, etc.) for 6 hours prior to the examination. If you have a history of liver disease, you may be asked to take a liver biopsy.

You should also remove jewelry and other jewelry-related items from your home before going to the hospital.
