Saddle hunting is the method of deer hunting from an elevated position using a tree hunting saddle. You can either use a sling to attach the saddle to your back or clip the anchor to the tree using a hunting saddle, lineman’s belt or rock climbing harness. The tree is then lowered to the ground and you are ready to begin your hunt.
You will need to be able to reach the top of your tree with your arms and legs, but you don’t have to use your hands to do this. In fact, it is very common for hunters to have their hands on their hips while they are lowering their tree.
This allows them to keep their weight off of their legs and their arms, while still keeping their head and neck in the same position as they were when they started the hunt, which is a very important part of being a good tree hunter.
It is also important to note that you do not need any special equipment for this type of hunting, as long as you have the proper equipment and know how to properly use it, you should be fine.

Is saddle hunting better?
Because tree saddles weigh less and require less bulky equipment, you can make much less noise while you walk, giving you a better chance of going unnoticed by the wildlife. It makes it easier to get to places that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to reach.
Is saddle hunting safe?
Because of the safety process built into the saddle hunting method (lineman’s rope and tether rope), saddle hunting honestly provides a greater sense of safety from the ground up. Saddle hunting provides one of the safest means of hunting in the world.
Saddle hunting is a great way to learn how to hunt with a bow and arrow. It is also an excellent way for beginners to get a feel for bowhunting techniques, as well as for experienced archers to hone their skills.
Is saddle hunting hard?
It is not any harder than a traditional treestand hunter. Depending on which side of the stand you’re standing on, you have to pivot all the way around on your stand to shoot to your right or left.
Is a tree saddle worth it?
They can be VERY COMFORTABLE given it fits you and it’s not a cheapo. I practiced after purchasing it all. It’s probably one of the most competitive bows I’ve ever shot. Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Great bow for the money!
I bought this bow a few weeks ago and I am very happy with it. It is very comfortable to shoot and the weight is perfect for me. The only thing I wish it had was a sling, but that is a minor complaint.
What is a Sitdrag?
The sit drag is a simple “sling” that was meant to be used at ground level as a lightweight seat. It’s possible to use a rock climbing harness with one to get the most out of it. The seat is made from a single piece of 1/4″ plywood that is cut to size and glued to the bottom of the frame.
It is then screwed into place with two 1″ screws. This is the same method used to attach a seat to a bike. The only difference is that this time you are attaching it to your back instead of your front. If you want to mount it on the front, you will need to drill a hole in the back and then screw the seat into that hole.
I used a drill press to make the holes and it took me less than an hour. Once you have the slots cut out, it’s just a matter of screwing them in and securing them with the nuts and bolts you already have on hand.
Can you sleep in a tree saddle?
The answer is yes, if you’re wondering if you can sleep in a saddle. As long as you don’t put your head in the saddle too much, it is quite comfortable.
Are climbing tree stands worth it?
Climbing treestands are great for the mobile hunters. Those who hunt public or private don’t want to be locked down. A climbing treestand is great for someone who likes to hunt but doesn’t have a lot of money to place a treestand at all of their spots.
If you are looking for a place to set up a hunting camp, you will need to find a spot that is not too far from the road. If you have a lot of time to kill a few deer or elk, it may be a good idea to go to a different area of the park.
You can find out more about these places by visiting the Parks and Recreation website at www.nps.gov.
Can you saddle hunt in the rain?
NEVER use a TETHRD® Saddle during inclement weather such as rain, lightning, windstorms or icy conditions and end your hunt and return to the ground without a saddle.
Why do people hunt from tree stand?
Treestands give a hunter a longer range of visibility, allowing for more time to prepare for a safe shot. In a treestand a hunter can move without being seen, even though game animals can detect slight movements. Trees and shrubs can be used to hide from predators.
They can also provide cover for hunters, as well as provide shelter from wind and rain. A tree or shrub may also be a good place to set up camp for the night.
