Is car surfing dangerous?
There are dangers. Most of the car surfing deaths occurred in California, Florida, Texas, and New York during the summer months. The majority of these deaths were associated with the use of a motorized vehicle.

The most common cause of death for car surfers was drowning, followed by being struck by a vehicle, being thrown from a moving vehicle and being run over.
Injuries were more likely to be fatal if the car was traveling at a high rate of speed, if it was being driven by an intoxicated driver, or if there were other factors that contributed to the fatality (e.g., alcohol, drugs, lack of seatbelt use, etc.).
