It’s a strenuous hike with very few exceptions, and one that requires a night in the wilderness. It is not a day hike. With an elevation change of over 4,300 ft (1300 m), it’s really that elevation change that makes this hike so challenging. The trail starts out in a forested area with a couple of campsites along the way.
The first campsite is at the top of a small hill and the second is on the other side of the hill from the first. There are a few small streams running through the forest but they’re not very deep and there’s very little water in the area so you’ll need to bring plenty of water with you. You’ll also want to pack a rain jacket and a sleeping bag to keep you warm and dry.
If you’re going to be camping overnight, make sure you bring a tent and sleeping pad as well as a water bottle and some food for the night. Once you get to the trailhead, turn left and follow the road for about a mile or so until you come to a fork. Take the right fork and continue on for another mile.
