You can take the Carmel Valley Road exit from San Diego. To get to Torrey Pines Road South, you have to head west. There are two parking options available at the natural reserve. You can park at the south end of the beach and then hike up the steep hill to the parking area on the right. From the parking lot, follow the trail to an overlook overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
From Los Angeles, head west on I-5 toward the San Gabriel Mountains. At the intersection, turn left and head up a dirt road. Follow the road for about 1.5 miles until you see a sign for a trailhead on your left. Turn right onto the dirt trail and follow it all the way back to your car.

St. Helens in the distance, as well as Mount Adams, Mount Baker, and Mount Shasta, all of which can be seen from this viewpoint.

As you descend the first few hundred feet, be sure to stop and take in all the amazing views that you are about to see.
