How do you pack a tent in a backpack?
The middle of your back is the best place to put a tent in a backpack. The most comfortable place for hikers to carry heavy items is here. The tent body and rainfly are in my backpack, but I put the tent poles in the outside of the pack. If you are going to use a sleeping bag, make sure it is at least as big as your sleeping pad. This will help keep the weight of your pack down.
If you don’t have a pad, you will need to buy one. You can buy a cheap pad from a camping store, or you can make your own pad out of a sheet of plywood and a few pieces of fabric. Make sure the fabric is long enough to wrap around your body, but not so long that it hangs over your head. The fabric should be about 1.5 inches wide and 2 inches long.
