Like any other carry-on luggage, backpack weight and size limitations are the same, but it takes a bit of planning to travel on a plane with your hiking gear.
However, most airlines have between 25 and 50-pound weight limits, so if you’re traveling with a backpack, it’s best to check with the airline to see if they have a weight limit for your backpack.

What backpacking gear can you not fly with?
No camp stove fuel of any kind is allowed on a plane, so you can’t take camping gear with you. Bear spray is a larger can of pepper spray, which is not allowed in bear country. It is not possible to bring bear spray on a plane.
Aerosol canisters – these can be used to extinguish a fire, but they are not permitted to be carried on or carried in a carry-on bag or checked luggage. They must be checked in at the airport and must not be allowed to leave the plane until they have been checked out and are no longer in the possession of the airline.

Can I bring camping gear on a plane?
You can easily fly with most camping and backpacking gear. The only problem is that some of it must be in your luggage. Anything that could be used as a weapon will need to be carried in a carry-on bag. Backpacks can be used as checked-in luggage, but you need to check with the airlines what size is allowed. All straps and the bottom of the bag need to be secured when packing it.
If you’re going to use a backpack for a long trip, it’s best to pack it in a way that it won’t get lost or damaged in transit. It’s also a good idea to make sure that the straps are secure, so that you don’t have to worry about them falling off.
