How Long Is The Chehalis Western Trail? (Answer Inside!)

The stretch in Lacey is shaded by trees on both sides of the trail. The trail runs north-south through the heart of Thurston County (Olympia-Lacey) and links up with the County-owned 14.5-mile Appalachian Trail (AT) at the end of this stretch. The trailhead is located on the east side of Panoramic Drive, just north of a small parking lot.

From the parking area, walk east on Panora Drive for about a quarter mile and turn left onto the dirt road. Follow the road for a few hundred yards and you’ll come to a junction. Turn right (north) to follow the AT, or left (south) if you want to go back to the PanORAMIC DRIVE PARKING LOT.

From start to finish, the Chehalis Western Trail is 21 miles long. We walked to Chambers Lake at the Trailhead. The trailhead is located on the west side of the lake. From the parking lot, take a right onto the road and follow it for about a mile until you come to a fork. Take the left fork and continue for another 1/2 mile.

Follow the sign for a short distance and then turn left onto a dirt road that will take you up to the top of a hill. Turn right and walk up the hill and turn right again to continue on your way.

You will pass a couple of campsites along the way, but you should be able to find a nice spot to camp if you are looking for it. If you do not have a tent, we suggest you bring a sleeping bag, a blanket, and some extra clothes. The trail is very well maintained. It is well marked and easy to follow.
