The Barr Trail is a one-way hike that takes you from Manitou Springs to the top of the Grand Teton. The trail is well-maintained, and there are several campsites along the way. The hike begins at the trailhead parking area, which is located on the north side of Highway 18. From the parking lot, take a right onto the road and follow it for about 1.5 miles until you come to a fork.
Take the left fork and continue for another 1/2 mile. At the fork, turn left (north) onto a dirt road that will take you to Barr Trail. Turn right (south) and take the first 2/3 of a mile up the hill. You will see a sign that says “Hikers Only” and you will have to walk a short distance before you can continue.
After the sign, there will be a trail on your left that leads to an old logging road. Follow this trail for a few hundred yards until it ends at a large rock outcropping. This is where you want to park your car. If you are going to camp, you should leave your vehicle at this point.

The average hiker can make it up in about six hours on a good day. If you want to get to the top early in the day, the experienced people at Barr Camp recommend you go back below the tree line by 1 p.m. “The best time to get there is when the sun is high and the trail is dry.
If it’s raining or snowing, you’ll have to wait until the next day to do it. You’ll also want to make sure you have enough food and water to last you all the way up the mountain.

What is the elevation at Barr Camp?
The trail head in Manitou Springs is approximately 6.5 miles away from Barr Camp Barr Camp. The campground is located on the west side of the lake. There is no water available at the campsite. Camping is not allowed in the area. Barr Camp Campground has a picnic area with tables and grills, a fire ring with fire pit and grill, firewood, water, toilet facilities, picnic tables, restrooms and fire rings.
It is open year-round from sunrise to sunset. Please be aware that there are no restrooms at this location, so be sure to bring your own water and toilet paper if you plan to use the restroom. If you do not have a vehicle, you may park your vehicle at a nearby parking lot.
Can you walk down the Manitou Incline?
The summit of Pikes Peak is reached by the Barr Trail, a path that is more than a century old. It can be used to descend from the summit of the Incline. To hike the Incline, users must take a right turn on the Barr trail and follow it for 1.5 miles. The trail then turns left and continues for another 1/2 mile to a junction with the trail that leads up the mountain.
