Do I have to follow the Freedom Trail Fallout 4?

Once inside, head up the stairs and into the next room, where you will find two more skeletons, one of which can be killed for the key, while the other will be left alone. Head back down the stairwell and head through the door on the right.
You will now find yourself in a large room. In the center of this room is a table with several bookshelves on it, as well as a bookcase containing a few more books. On the table in front of you is an empty bottle of whiskey, which you can pick up and drink.
If you drink the whiskey and then pick it up again, it will not be consumed, but the bottle will still be in your inventory.
What happens if you side with the institute?
