Catholics, eggs do not count as meat for Lent. Eggs are not allowed for Orthodox Christians.

Can you eat eggs and cheese during Lent?
Church prescriptions were more strict for the period of Lent than for other days of the year. Meat and animal-based products were not allowed. Lent, eggs, butter, cream, milk and cheese could not be eaten. Eggs were also not allowed to be used as a substitute for meat during the Lenten fast.

Why were eggs forbidden during Lent?
Lent, no meat or meat products, dairy or eggs could be eaten, even on Sundays, because of restrictions on the kinds of acceptable food. At this time of repentance for one’s sins, the idea was to avoid self-indulgence. Lenten fast is a time for penance and penitence.

Are eggs considered meat?

What are the Catholic rules for Lent?
On ash wednesday, good friday, and all fridays of lent, everyone of age 14 and up must abstain from consuming meat. Unless exempt due to a medical or religious reason, everyone of age 18 to 59 must fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
On the other days of the week: Anyone of any age may eat meat, as long as he or she abstains from eating meat on the following days: Friday and Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
