It is possible to carry a tent on a plane in checked or carry-on luggage. However, when transporting it in hand luggage, you must check with the airline to ensure the tent fits underneath the seat or in the plane’s overhead bin. You need to pack the tent poles and stakes in checked baggage.
If you are traveling with children, they must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 18 years old. Children under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian with them at all times.

Can I bring my camping gear on a plane?
You can easily fly with most camping and backpacking gear. The only problem is that some of it must be in your luggage. Anything that could be used as a weapon will need to be carried in a carry-on bag. What you need for a camping trip depends on the type of trip you’re planning.
For example, if you want to camp in the woods, you’ll need a tent, a sleeping bag, and a fire starter. If you plan to hike or hike-a-bike (Complete list below)

Can you take tent poles through TSA?
Generally, tent poles are allowed in carry-on or checked bags. Our officers make the final decision on whether an item will be allowed or not, even if an item is generally allowed.
Can you check a tent on Southwest?
You can check your tent as a substitute for a free bag, or carry it on if it’s small enough. The pegs will likely be seized, so don’t carry them with you. You should put them in your luggage. If you’re going to camp in the park, you’ll want to bring a sleeping bag and a tent.
If you don’t have one of these items, then you can bring your own, but be sure to check with the ranger to make sure you have the proper permits. You’ll also need a fire ring, which can be purchased at the visitor center. The ranger will be happy to help you find one, if you ask nicely.
Can I fly with a sleeping bag?

What is a lightweight tent?
A tent which weighs less than 2 lbs per person is considered lightweight and a tent less than 1.5 lbs is considered heavy when backpacking with a partner. Tent weight is not the only factor to consider when choosing a sleeping bag.
You should also consider the weight of your sleeping pad and the amount of space you have in your tent. If you are using a pad that is too small for you, you may need to purchase a larger pad to accommodate the extra weight.
Can you take tent pegs in hand luggage?
Don’t carry your tent pegs in your hand luggage as they’ll get confiscated. You will either have to sleep under the stars or stay awake for three days, in which case you won’t be able to get back. If you’re going to be camping in a tent, make sure it’s a good one.
You don’t want to spend a lot of money on a cheap one, but if you can’t find one that’s good enough, you might as well spend the extra money and buy a better one later on. It’s also good to have a sleeping bag, as it will keep you warm and dry, and will make it easier for you to move around the campsite.
How much cash can we carry in flight?
