Can a priest have a beer?
They are allowed to drink. This may be shocking to many people, but priests are indeed allowed to enjoy alcoholic beverages. In fact, the Catholic Church has a long history of allowing priests to partake in alcohol.
In the early 20th century, Pope Pius XI issued a papal encyclical on the subject, which stated that priests should be free to “drink wine, beer, brandy, or any other intoxicating liquors, provided that they do not use them for the purpose of indulging in sexual immorality or for other immoral purposes.” In other words, if a priest were to consume alcohol, he would be breaking the rules of the Church and could be excommunicated.
However, this was not the case in the United States until the 1970s, when the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) changed its rules to allow priests the right to use alcohol for religious purposes. The change was made in response to the growing number of priests who were using alcohol as a form of self-medication for a variety of mental and physical ailments, such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
In addition, many of these priests were also suffering from alcohol abuse and addiction.
What is a priest not allowed to do?
The code of canon law forbids priests from engaging in sexual acts as a function of their vocation, and they cannot marry as a function of that. Priests, however, are permitted to have sexual relations with their spouses, provided they are married to someone who is not a priest. Church does not prohibit priests from marrying outside of the Church, but it does prohibit them from engaging in any form of sexual activity with a married person.

What do priests do for fun?
All the same things that people who aren’t priests do. Go to movies, concerts, plays, ball games, read. One of the priests I work with is into astronomy and science experiments and the other has a wicked sense of humor. I think it’s the fact that I get to help people.
It’s a wonderful thing to be able to make a difference in someone’s life, whether it be a child in need, or a person who is struggling with addiction or depression or whatever it is that they’re dealing with. That’s one of my favorite things about it, that you can make an impact on people’s lives in a very positive way.
Can priests have pets?
